I knew I wanted to be a cartoonist when I grew up when I sent my portfolio to Mad Magazine when I was 14. They didn’t hire me, BUT the hand-written rejection letter was a badge I carried with me for a long time. Because even though I didn’t get hired, the encouragement that came along with it surpassed any feeling of rejection.
I ended up majoring in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, in Savannah, GA, and eventually started up my comic Mister & Me.
My first major publication, Middle School Misadventures was published in April of 2019 through Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. A full-color graphic novel using characters from my Mister & Me strip. Its sequel, Middle School Misadventures: Operation: Hat Heist! comes out in April 2020.
I live in Davenport, Iowa with my wife, my son and our cat (who insists that I call her my co-worker).
