NCS Members are invited to join us for the third meeting of the NCS Virtual Book Club, featuring journalist, podcaster, graphic designer, and typographer Glenn Fleishman.
Glenn will be in conversation with host Lex Fajardo to talk about his Eisner-nominated book How Comics Are Made – a richly illustrated history of how newspaper comics were drawn, engraved, and distributed for over a century, tracing the entire production pipeline, from an artist’s ink and Ben Day dots to photographic color separation and digital prepress. Glenn explores the rich history of one of America’s best art forms and tells us where it’s been and points to where it’s going.
Participants are encouraged to read the book ahead of time and come with questions. You can find the book at your local bookstore and library, or buy it directly from the author.
Glenn is a recovering typesetter and journalist who turned a lifelong love of type and printing into a new career writing about the materials of newspaper and book printing, with a surprise specialty in newspaper comics. He’s spent 30 years as a freelance writer, contributing regularly to The Economist, The Seattle Times, Fast Company, Macworld, and The New York Times before becoming a Kickstarter-focused micro-publisher. Glenn won two episodes of Jeopardy in 2012.
