“Inside Out” gives Pete Docter Second Oscar Win

NCS member Pete Docter garnered his second Oscar at the 2016 Academy Awards Sunday night, February 28th at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Pete graciously accepted the award for Best Animated Feature for his work directing Disney/Pixar’s record-breaking film, INSIDE OUT. His first Oscar win was for 2009’s UP and he was also previously nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for UP (Writing) WALL-E (2008 – Writing), MIKE’S NEW CAR (2002 – Animated Short Film), MONSTERS, INC. (2001- Animated Feature Film), and TOY STORY (1995 – Writing). INSIDE OUT has also received several other awards, including the Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, Annie Award, BAFTA Award, and Satellite Award. Docter was also nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for INSIDE OUT. 

 Accepting the golden Oscar statue, Docter told the audience “This film was really born out of watching our kids grow up, which is not easy. Anyone out there who’s in junior high, high school, working it out, suffering — there are days you’re going to feel sad. You’re going to feel angry. You’re going to feel scared. That’s nothing you can choose. But you can make stuff. Make films. Draw. Write. It will make a world of difference.”

 The National Cartoonists Society congratulates Pete Docter for this important acknowledgement of his work and celebrates his great contribution to the art of film animation.
