Steve Moore is an animated film creator/writer, internationally syndicated cartoonist, children’s book author, and a former news executive at the Los Angeles Times. Moore is creator of the comic "In the Bleachers”, a comic panel distributed since 1985 by Andrews McMeel Syndication to hundreds of newspapers and websites worldwide. In 2017, Moore reluctantly handed off his comic to Andrews McMeel Syndication due to Essential Tremor, a neurological condition that causes shaking in the hands and other parts of the body. He continues to create and write animated films and children's literature. In feature animation, Moore created “Open Season”, the first CG film produced by Sony Pictures Animation. He wrote the original story and served as Exec. Producer. The movie was based on the humor of Moore’s syndicated comic and featured the voices of Ashton Kutcher, Martin Lawrence, Gary Sinise, and Debra Messing. The film franchise so far has generated three DVD sequels. He also created the CG animated feature "Alpha & Omega” for Lionsgate. Moore wrote the original story, screenplay and served as Producer. The cast included the voices of Hayden Panettiere, Justin Long, Dennis Hopper, and Danny Glover. The film franchise so far has generated seven DVD sequels. In TV animation, Moore was the creator and writer of “Metalheads” (Sunbow/TVLoonland), a BAFTA-nominated series that aired on the BBC in England, ZDF in Germany and ABC in Australia. He also wrote and produced with Disney TV Animation a series of “In the Bleachers” animated shorts that aired on ESPN. Moore began his animation career at Warner Bros. developing characters, premises and scripts for producer Tom Ruegger and Steven Spielberg’s “Animaniacs” franchise. In children’s books, Moore is author/illustrator of the critically acclaimed “King of the Bench” series of middle-grade novels with cartoons that is published by HarperCollins. Moore served as Exec. News Editor at the Los Angeles Times. He was a supervising news editor on two reporting teams that won Pulitzer Prizes for breaking news coverage of the '92 Rodney King riots and the '94 Northridge earthquake. He resigned from The Times in order to concentrate on his syndicated cartoon and to work in film and TV animation. He graduated from Oregon State University and completed his masters degree at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism & Communication. Moore grew up in La Canada Flintridge, California. He has three grown children and currently resides in Oregon with his wife, Melaine.
