Before creating the “Mallard Fillmore” comic strip, which I wrote and drew for 30 years for King Features, (and is still going strong, thanks to Loren Fishman) I was an editorial cartoonist, and occasional reporter, editorial writer and copy editor for newspapers in Kentucky, Missouri, Virginia and D.C. Mallard, a TV reporter, grew out of my love for love for journalism and my experiences as (usually) the lone conservative in any newsroom I worked in, and is built on the idea that true diverstiy, the diversity of ideas, needs all the help it can get.
