Cartoon enthusiasts packed the Hilton Hotel’s Atrium Ballroom in downtown Portland on Sunday in hopes of meeting some of the top cartoonists from around the country. Fans were able to have their caricatures drawn, get an item signed, request sketches and buy artwork.
The event was part of the National Cartoonists Society’s 71st Annual Reuben Awards. Ann Telnaes, editorial cartoonist for The Washington Post, took home the outstanding cartoonist of the year award. She was given the honor for her coverage of the 2016 presidential election.
Nearly 50 cartoonists attended the event held this year in Portland. Some of the most popular included Bill Morrison of “The Simpsons,” “Futurama” and Disney; David Silverman of “The Simpsons”; Mike Peters, of the comic strip “Mother Goose & Grimm”; and Jerry Scott, of the strips “Zits” and “Baby Blues.”
