Hello my NCSers. As many of you know, the brilliant Richard Thompson, fellow cartoonist and Reuben Award winner, passed away today after a grueling battle with an unusually aggressive form of Parkinson’s Disease.
I will eventually follow this post with a warmer, more colorful tribute to my great friend, an artist already acknowledged by history as among the tallest peaks of our craft.
But for now, please accept as a placeholder this worthy obituary by Michael Cavna for The Washington Post, the paper that encouraged, nurtured and gave both Richard and me creative outlets.
Along with the same-day loss of the unparalleled Jack Davis, heaven just got an explosive dose of humor and draftsmanship. It breaks my heart to try and be light today, but my pal wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thank you and be well. And draw.
