Tom Gill Education Award presented to two deserving New York cartoonists.

Last month, Mort Gerberg and Adrian Sinnott were the latest cartoonists to be given the Tom Gill Education Award.

The event was held at the Manhattan chapter’s annual holiday party at the Society of Illustrators.

The Tom Gill Award was created in 2015, named in honor of Tom Gill, Lone Ranger cartoonist and one of the founders of the School of Visual Arts in New York City.  The award is intended to recognize cartoonists who devote much of their non-freelancing time to art education and furthering the world of cartooning.

Mort Gerberg has won two divisional Reuben awards, both for Gag Cartoons, in 2007 and 2008.  In addition to teaching at Parsons School of Design in NYC for 15 years, Mort wrote the premier book on the business of cartooning, ‘Cartooning: the Art and the Business’, a regular site on the bookshelves of cartoonists and illustrators of all disciplines for over 30 years.

Adrian Sinnott has been an illustrator forever, or at least since his jubilant birth the in the town of Limerick.  In addition to a prolific career in cartooning and illustration, for 20 years sas taught at the State University of New York on Long Island and 3 at Hofstra University.
